Mirant Adapts ATI's AWARE Product to Improve Outage Planning and Documentation of Outage Inspections

SAN JOSE, CA - 7/1/2002 - Automation Technology, Inc. (ATI), a supplier of Collaborative Asset Management solutions for the energy industries, is pleased to announce that Mirant Corporation has acquired ATI's AWARE product with ALSTOM Power Inc.'s Outage & Boiler Dockit modules. This move was driven by a need to improve documentation and management of knowledge pertaining to the condition of boilers, and easily utilize that knowledge to plan for future outages.

Mirant Corporation has installed the web-based AWARE product in a central office with access provided to multiple plant sites in the Philippines. Boiler inspections that are performed during outages are documented in AWARE, and the information is immediately accessible from personnel at the central office as well as throughout the plant. Consolidated daily work lists can be viewed online or printed as hard copy report. At the conclusion of the outage, a consolidated report of all boiler equipment inspected is generated that includes as found conditions, recommendations, digital photographs, drawings, tables, charts, etc.

Forced outages that occur due to tube failures are also documented in AWARE. This enables Mirant the ability to centralize knowledge pertaining to tube failures across multiple plants, enabling engineers to analyze failure trends. By doing this, regulatory reporting is streamlined and standardized from one central location as well.

To prepare for subsequent outages, the AWARE system is utilized to review and track recommendations that have not been implemented yet, and identify critical components that need attention during the coming outage.
